Dual Language Education 

Hola, my name is Norma Ramirez. I am 32 years old, married and with two children ages 14 and 10. I was a bilingual classroom teacher for approximately 8 years. I spent five years teaching 1st grade, one-year teaching 2nd grade and two years teaching Kindergarten which became my favorite grade to teach.  I have experience teaching in a Late-Transitional Bilingual Education program as well as Dual Language Education programs.

I am currently the Bilingual/LPAC Coordinator for Harts Bluff ISD. I am also a dyslexia therapist in training enrolled in the 2 year program called Take Flight  through Scottish Rite Hospital. My goal is to become a certified Dyslexia Therapist by the end of this year.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M Texarkana. Earning my bachelor’s degree has been one of the greatest achievements of my entire life. As the daughter of immigrant parents, low socioeconomic status and in a family of seven, life hasn’t been essentially easy. Always struggling with language and economic obstacles, being the second out of five siblings in my family to accomplish more than a high school degree, was a great accomplishment. I always knew I was destined for more. I knew I couldn’t end just with a bachelor’s degree. As a college student, I had to work really hard; having a part time job, married, being a mom at an early age and a full-time student, all at the same time was very difficult, but it taught me to accomplish my goals and fulfill my dreams. Working hard is a requirement! As an educator, I have learned how important bilingual education is, this the reason why I decided to pursue my masters degree in Bilingual Education, specializing in the Dual Language. As the Bilingual Coordinator at HBISD, my goal in is to advocate for Dual Language Education, work with parents, teachers and administrators to show them the importance and all the benefits of implementing Dual Language Education.
